Customized support programs for children & adolescents in multicultural families

1. Support for basic learning to prepare school (DaBaeUm 다배움)
  • Target: Preschooler and lower grade students of elementary school
  • Contents: Support for learning of basic Hangeul, basic math, reading & writing etc.

Customized support programs for immigrants by marriage

1. Multi-cultural family support center and family center
  • Current status: 14 places – 5 multi-cultural family support centers & 9 family centers
  • Major services: training and counseling for multi-cultural families, interpretation & translation service, and other services including self-help
  • Base center: multi-cultural family support center in Nam-gu (Women’s center)
2. Support for operation of Korean language education organizations for multi-cultural families
  • Target: immigrants by marriage and immigrant children
  • Educating organization: 16 places including multi-cultural family support center
  • Program: 7 courses (child education, local culture, immigrant children, employment, TOPIK reading, TOPIK listening, TOPIK writing)
    * Available for annual partly support of Korean language textbooks for Korean language education organizations

  • Contents: preparation classes for qualification exams for elementary, middle, and high school

11. Support for emergency medical services

    (1) Broaden support for medical interpretation service

  • Target: foreigners and multi-cultural families with language barrier
  • Contents: Interpretation service at medical organizations
  • Languages: 16 languages (English, Chinese, Vietnamese, Mongolian, Thai, etc.)
  • (2) Support for emergency medical expenses

  • Target: female immigrants by marriage before naturalization, foreign workers and their children, refugee, etc.
  • Contents: hospitalization, surgery and related medical services (available in 6 hospitals)

12. Support for married female immigrant victims of domestic violence

    (1) Shelter for immigrant women: 1 place (within 2 years, housing & foods provided, counseling, treatment, support for leaving Korea, etc.)

  • Objectives: Improving treatment of workers at multicultural family support centers, strengthening the role of base centers, and promoting the improvement of quality of center-provided services through mutual exchanges and communication between integrated centers of multicultural family support center
