Shanghai is located in the southeastern area of the Yantze River and is a natural port connecting China to the world. The city features advanced high-tech industries including aerospace.

Shanghai is a gateway for external trade and a logistics hub for land, sea and air routes in the Pacific Rim region. The city has endeavored to develop itself into a global center of economic activity, finance and trade with the development of Pudong District, the largest development project during the 1990’s. The city has achieved a rapid development in a number of areas, such as education, culture, science and technology. Since the return of Hong Kong to China, the city has made a leap forward as a global financial hub.

The Busan Trade Office in Shanghai opened on July 8, 1997.

Jeong Moon-hwa, Mayor of Busan and Huang Ju, Mayor of Shanghai established a sister city relationship in Shanghai on Aug. 24, 1993.
