Busan Electronic Technical High School Opens Semiconductor Education Center: Full Support from Busan Metropolitan City, the Office of Education, and Related Institutions

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will attend the opening ceremony of the “Semiconductor Education Center,” which will serve as a forward base for cultivating regional semiconductor professionals, at Busan Electronic Technical High School today (20th) at 2:00 p.m., and will provide support for the school’s efforts to be designated as a Semiconductor Meister High School.

The ceremony will be attended by Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs Kim Kyung-duk, Superintendent of Education Kim Seok-jun, National Assembly Member Seo Ji-young, and representatives from local semiconductor companies, who will inspect the center’s establishment status and encourage students.

Since 2024, the City has pursued systematic efforts to secure the final designation of Busan Electronic Technical High School as a Semiconductor Meister High School. In July 2024, it signed a four-party memorandum of understanding with the Busan Metropolitan City Council, the Office of Education, and the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry to establish an administrative and financial support framework. The City has also actively participated in a dedicated task force led by the Office of Education, devoting full efforts to the designation process.

The newly opened “Semiconductor Education Center” (hereinafter referred to as the “Center”) is the first educational infrastructure established by Busan Electronic Technical High School to foster semiconductor professionals. The Center is housed in a single-story building with a total floor area of 504 square meters and is equipped with front-end and back-end semiconductor process equipment, and is expected to serve as a key driver in securing Meister High School designation.

With semiconductor education in Busan expanding from the university level to the high school level, a foundation is expected to be established that enables local youth to receive practical, field-oriented training and connect directly to employment opportunities.

The City has maintained close communication with the National Assembly and related institutions, actively emphasizing the necessity of the designation. Amid intense competition with the Seoul metropolitan area, it plans to concentrate all capabilities to achieve the goals of balanced regional development and the cultivation of field-oriented talent.

Looking ahead, the City will strengthen cooperation with the Office of Education and enhance administrative and financial support to ensure that Busan Electronic Technical High School is designated as a Semiconductor Meister High School in June of this year (tentative).

The City will provide budgetary support necessary for curriculum operation and equipment expansion, and will establish a competitive Meister High School model through industry–academia cooperation linked to the region’s power semiconductor specialized complex.

Furthermore, taking the opening of the Semiconductor Education Center as an opportunity, the City plans to continuously expand an advanced semiconductor industry ecosystem in which local youth can grow and thrive in Busan.

Mayor Park Heong-joon stated, “Semiconductors are a strategic industry that will serve as Busan’s future growth engine, and securing outstanding talent must come first in order to create a city that companies choose. Through the designation of Busan Electronic Technical High School as a Semiconductor Meister High School, we will do our utmost to provide support as ‘One Team’ with the City, the Office of Education, and the school so that it can be transformed into a talent-training institution that leads the development of regional industries.”
