Busan Metropolitan City Successfully Concludes Economic Education Instructor Contest “I Am the Instructor!”

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it held an awards ceremony on July 25 to recognize the final five outstanding instructors in its economic education instructor training and selection program, “I Am the Instructor!”

“I Am the Instructor!” is a competition-style program designed to nurture and select outstanding instructors who can support Busan citizens in engaging in rational economic activities and acquiring knowledge related to the economy.

Now in its third year, the program aims to discover talented instructors capable of delivering high-quality economic education to citizens. It is hosted by Busan Metropolitan City and organized by the Busan Regional Economic Education Center under the Busan Institute.

The evaluation process consisted of two rounds: [Round 1] a video lecture demonstration assessment (May 20–30), and [Round 2] an on-site lecture demonstration assessment (July 11).

Out of 45 applicants, the top five scorers from the first round advanced to the second round, where they delivered passionate lectures on diverse topics in a final competition. Final rankings were determined through evaluations conducted by five expert judges in the field of economics.

The grand prize, excellence award, and merit awards were presented by the Mayor of Busan, while the two encouragement prizes were awarded by the Busan Institute.

[The Five Outstanding Instructors] Grand Prize: Jeong Young-mi; Excellence Award: Lee Da-won; Merit Award: Lim Se-hoon; Encouragement Awards: Kim Kyung-soo and Tae Won. These recipients will be granted guaranteed annual teaching hours as part of their award benefits.

The guaranteed annual teaching hours are as follows: Grand Prize – 50 hours; Excellence Award – 20 hours; Merit Award – 10 hours; Encouragement Award – 5 hours.

In addition to instructor selection, the Busan Regional Economic Education Center is committed to expanding economic education in response to the diverse needs of Busan citizens. The center develops and distributes economic education programs tailored to different life stages and social groups and creates high-quality educational content.

Designated under the “Economic Education Support Act,” the center has overseen economic education in the Busan region since 2006.

Beyond training instructors, the center identifies a wide range of educational needs across the community—including youth, children, persons with disabilities, multicultural families, seniors, military personnel, and inmates—to provide customized economic education to those who need it most.

The center’s faculty and educational content cover essential practical knowledge in areas such as financial literacy, consumer education, career guidance, savings, and investment.
