‘Carmen’ takes the stage at Busan Concert Hall
source: classic busanFrom Dec. 19 to 20, Georges Bizet’s iconic opera “Carmen” will take the stage at Busan Concert Hall, led by Artistic Director Myung-Whun Chung, marking his first time conducting “Carmen” in Korea in nearly 20 years. Expectations are high among opera enthusiasts eager to experience the return of this masterpiece in Busan.Inspired by the French novel of the same name, “Carmen” is a gripping tale of love, jealousy and tragedy. Its story follows a turbulent love triangle: Carmen, a captivating, free-spirited woman; Don José, a soldier who falls dangerously in love with her; and Escamillo, the charismatic bullfighter who wins her attention. The opera is celebrated for its unique blend of fiery arias, exotic melodies and vibrant orchestral colors, which together create an atmosphere of passion and danger. It draws audiences deep into the emotional chaos of love — intense, unpredictable, and irresistibly dramatic. Tenor Yong-hoon Lee stars as Don José, and mezzo-soprano Michèle Losier performs the title role of Carmen. Lee, an internationally acclaimed tenor, has appeared on the world’s leading stages, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House in London, and the Vienna State Opera in Austria. Joined by the Gimhae City Choir and the Classic Busan Choir, the performance will deliver an immersive and powerful choral presence, bringing 19th-century Seville vividly to life.
