Successful Candidate Announced for Royal Russell School Busan Campus, the City’s Pioneering International Academy
□ Busan Metropolitan City and the Korea Land Housing Corporation have unveiled the final design for the Royal Russell School Busan Campus, the first foreign educational institution in Busan. The selected entry, The Royal Russell Heritage, was submitted by a consortium* led by Kangnam Architectural Firm.*In partnership with Espas and SEOP○ A core pledge in the city’s vision to build a global education hub, this initiative is spearheaded by Busan, with the Korea Land Housing Corporation overseeing the competition and construction processes. The prestigious Royal Russell School, based in the United Kingdom, will operate the campus.○ Five leading domestic companies competed, with an expert panel reaching its decision on June 30, 2025.□ The winning work was praised for its functional efficiency, symbolic spatial layout, and thoughtful consideration of academic needs.○ Accommodating approximately 1,350 elementary and middle school students, the campus will comprise five above-ground floors and one underground level—with a total floor area of 18,936 square meters—and encompass modern facilities such as a swimming pool and a multipurpose auditorium.□ The design phase is anticipated to conclude by mid-2026, with construction commencing in the latter half of the year. The school is slated to open in August 2028.○ To ensure smooth coordination and timely execution, a task force has been formed, consisting of representatives from the city, the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority, the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education, the Korea Land Housing Corporation, and the Royal Russell School Project Group.□ Mayor Park Heong-joon said, “The Royal Russell School Busan Campus will not only improve living conditions for foreign residents but also help curb brain drain and attract overseas talent. Korea’s First! Gwangalli Drone X Laser Show on Saturday, July 5 at 20:00The night sky over Gwangalli will dazzle with a stunning fusion of drones and lasers on July 5, 2025, at 20:00.Suyeong-gu will host the Gwangalli Laser Show on Saturday, July 5, in conjunction with its signature nighttime experience—the Gwangalli M Drone Light Show.Starting at 20:00, the drone segment will showcase beloved Kakao Friends characters. To mark the launch of ‘Friends Tour IN Gwangalli,’ 1,000 drones will illuminate the sky with the portrayals of Ryan, Choonsik, and Apeach. Immediately afterward, the theme ‘Busan, the City of Light and Sea’ will come to life in an 18-minute laser spectacular. Brilliant beams, projected from the upper deck of Gwangandaegyo Bridge, will dance in harmony with music and narrative elements, casting a romantic glow across the summer shoreline.This addition seeks to elevate the nationally acclaimed Gwangalli M Drone Light Show by incorporating a visually striking laser component, transforming it into a sustainable event.
