In 2026, Busan Makes Parenting Easier and Better with Free Nursery Care for Children Aged 3–5- Expanded support for essential items and food, along with aid for foreign children -□ Busan Metropolitan City and the Busan Metropolitan Council have decided to scale up childcare assistance starting in 2026, with a view to alleviating child-rearing burdens and promoting early education. Key updates encompass essential item fees for preschoolers aged 3–5 and enhanced meal and snack coverage for infants and toddlers aged 0–2.□ Under the ‘Precious Like Yours’ policy, Busan will broaden the Nursery Essential Fee Support framework with an extra 40,000-won monthly payment, to ensure fully subsidized programming for 3- to 5-year-olds.○ This program, launched in July 2024, offsets parents’ responsibility for essential nursery fees*.*Parent-borne expenditures beyond funded tuition, such as activities, field trips, events, and special offering fees○ ▲ In July 2024, Busan began covering the cost of activity fees (80,000 won/month) and field trip fees (17,000 won/month) for ages 3–5. ▲ In January 2025, field trip assistance was extended to age 2. Busan City Hall Roof Garden Opens to Public□ On November 5, 2025, at 10:30, Busan Metropolitan City held a grand opening ceremony for the new Roof Garden.○ Originally created on the fourth-floor rooftop of City Hall in 2014 under the name ‘Haneul Madang’ and reserved exclusively for staff to ensure security, the space has been refurbished into a peaceful, serene oasis for residents.○ Approximately 120 people, including Mayor Park Heong-joon and selected young attendees, joined the opening event.□ Roof Garden has been redesigned for relaxation, appreciation of changing blooms, and various activities.○ In addition to seasonal floral displays, it features seating areas, a play zone, and a greenhouse classroom.□ Beyond being a natural haven, Roof Garden also hosts a wide array of fun programs for children.○ In collaboration with Deullak Nallak, a kid-focused complex inside City Hall, the ‘Exciting Alley Playground’ session takes place on Saturdays at 10:00 and 11:00.○ As part of the ‘Green Dream Expedition’ pilot project, which connects neighborhood pocket parks with nearby kindergartens within a 15-minute radius, participants from the City Hall daycare will engage in gardening.□ Everyone is invited to enjoy Roof Garden.○ For the sake of safety, operating hours are set from 09:00 to 18:00.□ It can be accessed via the lobby elevator.□ Building on the successful unveiling of Domoheon, the renovated former mayor’s residence, in 2024, Roof Garden marks another step toward fostering a ‘city where citizens are happy in their daily lives.’○ Since September 2024, Domoheon has welcomed 360,000 guests and has become a beloved communal venue.
