Busan
ranked first in the “10 Gastronomy Cities Taiwanese Love” survey conducted by
booking.com, an online accommodation booking site.
Busan
has been widely promoted in Taiwan through the hit movie release, “Train to
Busan”. As well, Busan’s popular tourist destinations, including Haeundae Beach
and Gamcheon Village have been introduced with their local foods online and in
publications in Taiwan.
Busan’s
local specialties that tourists should try - dwaeji gukbap (pork and rice soup),
milmyeon (wheat noodles), naengchae jokbal (pig's trotter(s) salad), tteokbokki
(spicy rice cakes), jajangmyeon (noodles in black bean sauce) and fresh seafood
caught from the sea in Busan – were all introduced to Taiwanese citizens.
Early
this year, Busan ranked 48th among “52 Places to Go in 2017” by The
New York Times, and Ctrip, a Chinese online provider of travel services
selected Busan as one of the World Top 10 popular tourist destinations in 2016.
It shows the city’s popularity has been heightened, not only in Asia, but also
worldwide.
According
to a city official, the number of Taiwanese travelers has been tremendously
increasing this year compared to last year.
As of March, 2017, the total number of visitors from Taiwan was 38, 377
for this year. The number of visitors to
Busan from Taiwan is fourth highest after China, Japan and the United
States.
The opening of the Busan tourism promotional office in Taiwan on June 5th will attract more and more tourists to Busan in the months to come.
