Hidden beneath the former Bank of Korea Busan Branch lies a space where time seems to pause. The underground vaults—once fortified chambers that secured currency and gold bullion—have been reimagined as a setting where art and history intersect. Vaults Connected 2025-2026 leads visitors through Vaults No. 1 to 4, illuminating the connections that tie past and present, heritage and artistic expression.
Vault No. 1 centers on a connection to the future. Through a two-person exhibition by Lee Jae-gyun and Choi Won-gyo, winners of the inaugural Emerging Artists Art Show, BUSAN—CONNECTED (2024), the space introduces the bold voices shaping Busan's new generation of artists.
In Vault No. 2, archival photographs recounting the building's institutional past sit alongside contemporary works inspired by gold bullion. Once fixed symbols of economic value, these forms acquire renewed resonance through artistic reinterpretation.
Vault No. 3 reflects on the reconstruction of memory. Signage from the former Bank of Korea Busan Branch and materials salvaged during the building’s renovation have been transformed into upcycled art, granting new life to objects that were otherwise destined for disposal.
Vault No. 4 brings the history of the Bank of Korea and its underground vault system to life through film. The docent-guided tour invites visitors to follow the passage of time within this unique space.
"The moment you walk through the heavy vault door, you enter not simply as visitors but as witnesses to history and companions to art. May you experience the rare connection between time and art here, where the past is preserved and the future is imagined."
