7th Busan-Gyeongnam Administrative Integration Public Deliberation Committee Meeting Successfully Concluded

The Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that the 7th Meeting of the Busan-Gyeongnam Administrative Integration Public Deliberation Committee was held at 4:00 p.m. on June 10 at Busan Library.

○ The meeting was attended by more than 20 participants, including Co-chairs Jeon Ho-hwan and Kwon Soon-ki, committee members, and related city and provincial officials.

This session, held in Busan according to the rotational hosting principle between Busan and Gyeongnam, focused on:
▲ Discussions on citizen awareness survey questions
▲ Subcommittee reports and plans for the Committee's operations in the second half of the year

The Committee is structured into three subcommittees:
Planning & Communication, Autonomy & Decentralization, and Balanced Development—each of which held discussions on future operations and legislative cases of administrative integration.

○ The Planning & Communication Subcommittee discussed strategies for operating the Committee in the second half of the year and emphasized citizen engagement plans.

○ The Autonomy & Decentralization Subcommittee analyzed administrative integration laws enacted in other regions and reviewed proposals for special financial autonomy measures such as national tax refunds and local bond issuance.

○ The Balanced Development Subcommittee shared detailed strategies for achieving balanced development, with a focus on cultural, arts, and sports-related provisions.

Jeon Ho-hwan, Co-chair of the Committee, stated,
“Starting in July, citizen debates on the Busan-Gyeongnam administrative integration will be held. We will collaborate with civic groups, such as the Bu-Ul-Gyeong Forum, to inform citizens about this initiative,” and added,
“We will do our best to strengthen public outreach regarding administrative integration.”

Kwon Soon-ki, the other Co-chair, noted,
“Having laid the foundation for administrative integration during the first half of the year, the upcoming citizen debates will be a critical opportunity to broaden public consensus,” and emphasized,
“It is now more important than ever for each committee member to take an active role in the upcoming schedules.”

The Committee plans to hold eight citizen debates throughout Busan and Gyeongnam, starting on July 1 at the Asti Hotel in Busan Station, and continuing until the end of July. Both online and offline media will be utilized to actively promote and communicate these efforts.

○ The first debate sessions will be held as follows:

• ●Busan Region: July 1 at 14:00 at Asti Hotel, Grand Ballroom (Busan Station)

• ●Gyeongnam Region: July 2 at 14:00 at the Yangsan Arts Center, Small Hall

Moving forward, the Committee will continue to gather diverse public opinions on administrative integration and compile them into an official public deliberation report, which will be submitted to both local governments.
