Busan Agricultural Technology Center Launches Customized Agricultural and Rural Programs for “Neulbom Schools”

The Busan Agricultural Technology Center (hereinafter referred to as “the Center”) announced that it is launching full-scale efforts to expand and establish customized agricultural and rural experience programs for Neulbom Schools.

This initiative, led by the Rural Development Administration and jointly implemented by the Ministry of Education and local governments, is part of an inter-ministerial project aimed at reducing educational disparities and spreading the value of agriculture and rural life—key national policy objectives.

The program targets lower-grade elementary school students and integrates after-school care and education by incorporating agricultural and rural values into the Neulbom School curriculum. It is designed to give urban children opportunities to engage with nature through hands-on agricultural experiences.

The Center is already piloting two programs—“Carbon Garden: Communicating Through Agriculture” and “Little Gardeners with Picture Books”—in 14 classes across six elementary schools designated as Neulbom Schools.

Through ongoing field trials and continuous feedback, the Center plans to establish a standardized educational model and expand the program’s scale.

As a first step toward full implementation, the Center is developing a universal agricultural and rural experience model optimized for educational settings, in collaboration with Busan National University of Education.

This research project includes:
▲ Verifying the educational effectiveness of the program
▲ Developing grade-specific content
▲ Establishing a feedback system involving teachers, students, and parents

Busan National University of Education's expertise in education and the Center’s hands-on agricultural experience are expected to play a key role in building a standard model.

Additionally, the Center will operate two instructor training courses: Neulbom School Rural Experience Instructor and Therapeutic Urban Agriculture Instructor.

These programs aim to train 50 specialists capable of teaching agricultural education, designing experiential programs, and practicing therapeutic agriculture for young learners.

This professional training is expected to enhance the quality and sustainability of the programs while also contributing to the creation of education-based local jobs.

The Center anticipates that this project will:

▲ Create region-specific jobs

Yu Mi-bok, Director of the Busan Agricultural Technology Center, stated,
“The Center aims to provide diverse experiential opportunities so that urban children can learn the value of life and grow emotionally through agriculture. We will continue to contribute to local community revitalization through the convergence of education and agriculture.”
