Web-based reservations for lodging and rental cars available

Busan city has launched a new system enabling foreign visitors to make reservations for, and book hotels through, a Web site in their choice of three languages in addition to Korean.

The one-stop service, known as the Accommodation Internet Reservation System, is now being serviced in English, Japanese, Chinese and Korean.

The system is up and running as part of the Busan culture and tourism Web sit, www.visit.busan.kr. It has been prepared in cooperation with the online tourism company Octopus Travel (www.octopustravel.com), and World Inn (www.worldinn.com), the Korean government’s authorized lodging network.

Reservations are made possible by linking the services of these two Web sites. Octopus Travel has 14 hotels registered in the Busan region, while another 10 area hotels are registered on World Inn.

Going forward, the city plans to include all of the 57 hotels, inns and motels that are recognized as business hotels on the Web site to give tourists the widest selection possible.

Up to now, the Busan culture and tourism section of the Web site did provide information in four languages on travel, food and shopping, but the rental car and flight reservation and purchase services were possible only in Korean.

A city official said, “Through the full launch of the Internet reservation system, services are expected to improve through online competition among the facilities, and tourists will be able to find the accommodations they prefer more easily.”
