The Busan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office will have a ceremonial visit to the new port of Busan and a trial operation on December 16th. The Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, the president of the Busan Port Authority, and officials from the port business industry and public organizations will attend the ceremony.

This event is to inspect and examine the new machinery and facilities in order to overcome any shortcomings or fill any needs before beginning operation. The guests will be on board the Han Jin container ship Oslo to go to the new port where they will inspect the directional markers, lighthouse and other facilities. Later, they will also observe actual operations at the terminal where cranes move cargo to and from the ship.

Three of the port facilities will pre-open early next year with its official opening ceremony on January 19th, 2006. With the opening of the three facilities, the port will be able to handle 900,000 20-ft containers per year with three 50,000-ton ships in the port at the same time.

Completion of the new port will be by the year 2011, with the capacity of 30 ships in dock at the same time, handling 8,040,000 containers per year.
