To restore the ecosystem of Oncheoncheon (stream), Busan City is planning to remove the concrete bed of Oncheoncheon and install water purification facilities along the creek to improve water quality.

The Korean Engineering Consultants Corporation is in charge of designs for the Oncheoncheon Restoration Project and presented blueprints with regard to how the stream can be ecologically restored yesterday in the Busan Metropolitan City Hall. The project is 8.78km long.

During the presentation, the company introduced “Stabilization of Water Circulation”, “Refined Quality of Water”, “Restoration of Ecosystem”, and “Water-friendly Space for Citizens.”

To stabilize effluent water circulation in the creek, some bridges and small paths will be totally removed. Additionally, to improve the quality of water, the corporation is supposed to furnish temporary water purifiers on the creek bed.

In the next phase, to restore the ecosystem around the Oncheoncheon, the corporation will totally remove the concrete covering the bed of Oncheoncheon and concrete walls.
