Nuclear medical institution to be built in Busan

The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) held a ground-breaking ceremony to construct a nuclear medical institution in Gijang-gun, Busan, on March 22.

It will consist of a specialized cancer center, a cancer prevention examination center, and a radiology and medical research institute.

On hand at the ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and Technology Kim Woo-sik, Busan Mayor Huh Nam-sik, county commissioner Cho Huin-dol of Gijang, Lee Soo-yong, president of the Radiology & Medical Sciences Research Center, and other local residents.

The nuclear medical institution situated in the nation's southeast region is scheduled to open in 2009 with the goal of promoting the medical welfare of local cancer patients, and regular cancer prevention programs among others. The project is estimated to cost about 122.3 billion won.
