6 tourism areas; cruise, marine, medical, culture, ecosystem experience, shopping

Busan City has set about to promote six tourism sectors in the city.

They are cruise, marine, medical, culture-ecosystem experience, convention and shopping. It also will start the construction of tourism facilities in eastern, western and central parts of the city with the help of private-sector manpower and expertise.

The city is aiming to improve its capacity as a tourist attraction by launching the "Busan Tourism Corp." by next January.

The comprehensive tourism promotion plan, launched by selecting six strategic sectors, will proceed towards quality control and market enhancement.

The city examined the local situation and global trends before deciding on these six sectors.

The plan divides the city into three zones - East Busan, West Busan and Central Busan - and aims to greatly improve the tourism infrastructure in each. East Busan will be a film-convention tour zone, West Busan, a green-ecosystem zone, and Central Busan, a history-culture zone.

The city is also seeking to improve its tourism marketing. It will establish Busan Tourism Corp as well as organize and operate a regional council for tourism promotion.

To cultivate regional tourismrelated firms, it will enhance support for tourism and accommodation businesses, while promoting tour agencies and restaurants.

The city will go all out to expand its capacity to receive tourists. For instance, it will improve information booths by diversifying their functions and upgrading the environment of restaurants and bars to meet global standards.

Through these efforts, the city aims to attract 4 million tourists by 2020, compared with 1.67 million in 2007, while increasing tourism revenue to $4.8 billion and creating 200,000 jobs.
