The 2023 Haeundae Sand Festival will be held under the theme of ' Expo Sand Ocean Toward the Future 2030'. In Haeundae Square in Gunam-ro, an Expo Garden has been created with symbolic sculptures of previous world expos including the Eiffel Tower, a Ferris wheel, and a locomotive among others and has been filled with spring flowers.
The first day starts with a concert to mark the opening of the festival at 7pm on the 19th, with a performance attended by famous singers and fireworks that will follow. The 'Fly Board Show' and a range of different performances will feature between 20th and 21st of May. In particular, in order to encourage visitors to participate in the festival, a wide array of experiential activities will be organized, such as a children's sand playground, a sand board, and the chance to create sand sculptures with artists from over-seas. It has been four years since guest artists from various countries such as the U.S, Canada, and China were last included. In cooperation with three other domestic artists, fourteen sand sculptures will be created depicting future challenges, and the harmony be-tween the natural world and technology. A sand observatory has been installed that is 7 meters high and 30 meters long which enables visitors to overlook the sculptures while walking alongside.
