The
Busan Asian Film School (Busan AFiS) opened in the previous Busan Metropolitan
City Officials Training Institute building located in Gwangan-dong, Suyeong-gu
on October 4th.
The
opening ceremony of the school was held on October 4 at 3:00PM with the participation
of Busan Mayor Suh Byung-soo, influential film-related professionals,
investment and distribution companies and institutions.
Busan
AFiS will strive towards fostering film professionals in Asia who will
specialize in the international film industry and focus on film production,
investment, marketing, distribution, as well as international co-production.
Film
education programs, including Busan Film Commission’s ASEAN-ROK Film Leaders
Incubator: FLY 2016 and BIFF’s Asian Film Academy (AFA)*, have been expanding
in Korea and overseas.
The
Busan AFiS establishment project started in 2013 and was in need of a permanent
film school.
The
previous building of the Busan Metropolitan City Officials Training Institute
was remodeled for the Busan Asian Film School. The three story building with
one level underground, occupies a total area of 1,709 square meters, includes a
lecture room, a studio for hands-on education, a recording room, an editing
room and more. The school has filming equipment to teach students, including a
black-magic cinema camera.
The
2017 International Film Business Academy of the Busan Asian Film School will
begin its regular session in March, 2017. Applications will be accepted from
September 27 to November 25, 2016 and the guidelines for the application are
available at www.busan.go.kr or www.afis.ac
The
Korean Academy of Film Arts, established by the Korean Film Council plans to move
to Busan in 2018 as well. Busan will lead the Korean film industry as a city
that provides educational training to Korean and international film
professionals.
