Busan Metropolitan City Holds the First Expanded Executive Meeting of the 9th Popularly Elected Administration, Accelerating the Drive to Complete Busan as a Global Maritime Capital

Busan Metropolitan City, led by Mayor Chun Jae-soo, announced that it will hold the first expanded executive meeting of the 9th popularly elected administration at 9:00 a.m. today (July 6) in the City Hall Grand Conference Hall to discuss the full-scale direction of the new municipal administration.

The meeting, chaired by Mayor Chun Jae-soo, will bring together approximately 100 participants, including senior city officials, vice heads of district and county governments, and heads of affiliated public institutions. It will also be livestreamed through the official Busan Metropolitan City website (https://www.busan.go.kr/).

The meeting will review detailed implementation plans and discuss ways to deliver tangible results for citizens, centering on three key agenda items: the administrative direction of the 9th popularly elected administration, the 100-Day Emergency Measures for Busan Residents, and the Strategy for Completing Busan as a Global Maritime Capital.

Regarding the administrative direction of the 9th popularly elected administration, Busan Metropolitan City will pursue its municipal agenda with the goal of completing Busan as a global maritime capital at the center of the future transformation. The administration will focus on four strategic objectives: a global maritime capital connecting the world, an innovation-driven economy leading the future, a balanced-growth city where people can enjoy a high quality of life everywhere, and a citizen-centered city promoting health and happiness for all. The city will also develop detailed implementation plans for the policy commitments prepared by the “Busan on the Move Committee” and incorporate them across all areas of municipal administration so that citizens can experience meaningful improvements in their daily lives.

Under the 100-Day Emergency Measures for Busan Residents, Busan Metropolitan City will implement a package of emergency support measures totaling approximately KRW 1.3783 trillion to assist citizens and small business owners facing difficulties caused by the combined impacts of high oil prices, exchange rate volatility, inflation, and high interest rates. The city will concentrate its administrative capacity on revitalizing the local economy through ten key initiatives across three priority areas: supporting small businesses experiencing management difficulties, reducing the financial burden on citizens while revitalizing commercial districts, and strengthening the social safety net.

Under the Strategy for Completing Busan as a Global Maritime Capital, the city will pursue key initiatives to elevate Busan into a leading maritime city. These include concentrating core maritime administrative, judicial, financial, and corporate functions; establishing a multimodal logistics tri-port to lead the era of Arctic shipping routes; and creating a K-Maritime AI Belt hub encompassing national defense, ports, shipbuilding, and maritime culture. Through these initiatives, the city aims to complete the Southern Maritime Capital Region and foster Busan as a new engine of growth for the Republic of Korea.

Mayor Chun Jae-soo stated, “The 9th popularly elected administration is a golden opportunity to overcome the concentration of national functions in the Seoul metropolitan area and transform the lives of our citizens. By completing Busan as a global maritime capital and leading the AI-driven transformation, we will restore Busan’s growth engine and build a city that attracts people and opportunities rather than one that young people leave.”

He added, “The success of municipal administration lies in the field, where we listen to the voices of our citizens and collaborate across institutional and departmental boundaries.
