Auckland (Tāmaki-makau-rau) is the most populous urban area in the country, It has an urban population of about 1,470,100 (June 2020) located on northern part of North Island. The Māori-language name for Auckland is Tāmaki Makaurau, meaning "Tāmaki desired by many', in reference to the desirability of its natural resources and geography. The name came from history that many tribes frequently conflicted one another over land in the region as they eagerly covet it. Auckland had been a capital from 1840 to 1865 and a center of commerce and industry until today. Auckland has a great harbour, air routes ranged all part of the land and is linked to Wellington by railway. Mr. Moon Jung-Soo, Mayor of Busan and Mr. Les Mills, Mayor of Auckland signed the establishment of sisterhood relationship on April 22, 1996.
