The
introduction of sound in film was revolutionary.
The
Jazz Singer, a 1927 American musical film, was the first movie that included
dialogue and music on the filmstrip itself. Before The Jazz Singer, there were
silent films. Its release heralded the commercial ascendance of sound in films
and the decline of the silent film era. Ironically, many of the great silence films
were released in 1928. This program will be a great opportunity to experience
the outstanding achievement in silent films during the final days of the silent
film era.
