KISWIRE’s
old factory, F1963, has been transformed into an art space.
The
10,560 square meters inside F1963 began as the KISWIRE Suyeong wire factory,
before renowned architect Jo Byeong-su remodeled it into an art gallery and
multi-faceted cultural space. It opened last September during the Busan
Biennale (Sep. 3 – Nov. 30, 2016) and attracted domestic and international
attention.
Busan
Metropolitan City and KISWIRE agreed on remodeling F1963 to use as a used book
store, art gallery and cultural space this year. YES24, internet bookstore,
which already has two used book stores in Seoul, will operate the used book
store in F1963. The 1,652 square meter used bookstore plans to open as the
biggest one in Busan around March or April after some remodeling work is done.
KISWIRE
had not planned to operate F1963 with commercial purposes. It paid attention to
the cultural value of a “Book”, so the opening of the used bookstore in F1963
is expected to expand various cultural contents through the concept of a “book”,
and not just as a place for selling books.
Busan
City and KISWIRE will sign a Memorandum of Understanding for Busan City to use
the art gallery and cultural space in F1963 for the next 20 years from now for
free on January 20, 2017. After remodeling the space, it plans to open it to
the public later this year.
