The
organizing committee of the Busan Biennale has announced that it has embarked
on a project designating Suyeonggang riverside across from the Centum area as a
sculpture park in December.
The
decision is part of the commemoration project for the 130th anniversary of
Korea-France's diplomatic relationship.
To
mark the occasion, <LUX 10-Busan> art work by Nicolas Schöffer from the France
government was installed at Suyeonggang riverside on December 17, 2016.
Nicolas
Schöffer was a Hungarian-born French artist, considered the father of
cybernetic and video art. He pursues dynamism in his art work.
‘LUX
10-Busan’ is one of his LUX series of kinetic sculptures. A 14-meter high steel
tower with various-sized holes cut into its surface allow natural light
through during the daytime and artificial light at night to show the dynamism
between object and space, space and time, light and shade.
A
total of 6 art works will be installed at Suyeonggang riverside until April,
2017.
The organizing committee has installed a total of 93 works of art around Busan, including Dadaepo Beach, APEC Naru Park, Asiad Sculpture Park, and Eulsukdo Sculpture Park hoping to leave tangible and intangible artistic assets for the pleasure of Busan citizens, other than hosting the Busan Biennale and Sea Art Festival in Busan biyearly.
