The North Gate of Geumjeongsanseong Fortress, which is one of Busan citizens’ favorite places, has been restored with the efforts of both the public and private sectors.
Geumjeong-gu has recently completed the restoration, which started in October last year, and included changing pillars of the gatehouse, repainting the wooden structure, and replacing the door set within the stone foundations. Some damaged and missing parts of the South Gate and the 23rd watchtower were also repaired.
1 billion won (about US 105,000 dollars) was donated by Pusan Bank. Geumjeong-gu has other restoration plans this year. It will excavate and restore Jangdae, the former command post of Geumjeongsanseong, with an additional 2 billion won of financial support from Pusan Bank. A 5 billion won national subsidy will be used to renew the 1,400m section of the fortress between the East Gate and the 3rd watchtower.
An official from Geumjeong-gu said, “We very much appreciate the financial support from Pusan Bank in restoring Geumjeongsanseong, one of the representative cultural heritage sites of the city. This restoration contributes to raising public awareness of cultural assets and enhancing public pride in them.”
