Busan City and Russia's second-largest city of St. Petersburg have agreed to increase cooperation and exchanges to boost mutual benefit. They will also work to establish sisterhood between the two cities.
St. Petersburg has been the center of foreign investment as it is Russia's logistics hub and has performed pivotal roles in Russia's art, culture, industry, and transportation.
Busan Mayor Hur Nam-sik on Dec. 18, 2007 had a meeting with governor Matvienko to discuss matters of mutual interest including establishing sister cities relations during his four-day visit to St. Petersburg.
They agreed that the two cities have much in common as both are the second-largest cities in their respective countries serving as the center of shipping, culture, and tourism. The two leaders will join hands to boost cooperation and exchanges in many sectors.
Busan expects to lay the groundwork to pursue closer ties with other East European and Russian cities.
