Dubai Municipality would soon float tender for a project to construct a special monument for the Republic of Korea's city of Busan in Zabeel Park, as a symbol of the close ties between the two cities following a twinning agreement signed last year.
The monument, named Fantastic Busan Wave in Dubai, has been designed by renowned Korean designer, Jeon Ki Su, who has designed some of the world's famous games torches including those for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the 2002 Busan Asian Games, and the 2006 Doha Asian Games.
According to Mohammed Hassan Al Ali, Head of Projects Design Section at the General Projects Department of Dubai Municipality, the design was selected by the Busan Municipality in a competition among the country's top designers.
'The monument bears the shape of a split globe, with the surface forming a waves pattern with the merging water representing the deep friend-ship between the two cities,' said Al Ali.
He noted that the original monument will be eight meters high with the circle's diameter being 10 meters and it will be built in stainless steel. The base will be built using high-quality granite and as many as eight lighting poles will be added to the base to provide enough lighting for visitors to see the monument clearly even at night.
Zabeel Park already plays host to similar monuments from Istanbul (Turkey), Geneva (Switzerland), and Gold Coast (Australia), with which Dubai has signed twinning agreements. In addition, work is nearing completion to add a monument for the Japanese city of Osaka in the park.
The twinning agreements between Dubai and 18 cities world-wide provide for expanding bilateral relations among them in the areas of trade, economy, future technologies, tourism, ports and culture.
