The construction work to revitalize the midstream of Oncheon Stream will begin at the end of this month.

Busan City government said that the restoration work under the Oncheon Stream Comprehensive Maintenance Plan introduced in May 2007 is scheduled to be completed by 2010. The ₩43.4 billion project will recover the ecological function of the stream and offer a set of recreational activities enjoyed by local residents.

The construction work will begin by demolishing the concrete channel along the stream between the Dusil Bridge and the pedestrian bridge and will create a habitat for birds and animals, transforming Oncheon Stream into an eco-friendly park. Along the terrace land on the stream, the city government will create a bicycle path and diverse walkways such as yellow earth road, foot-massaging walkway, wood walkway, and stepping stones. In addition, there will be places for family recreation, sports facilities, a performance stage, and a grass square.

The city government also plans to designate historic cultural spaces and create cultural facilities including “Cheonjamun (ten thousand Chinese characters) Road”, a reminder of the local history as an educational center based on the spirit of Dongnae Confucian School, “Paechong (shell mounds) Resting Place” honoring the Dongnae Paechong and the Dongnae Eupseong (fortress), and a historical mural engraved with the Joseon Tongsinsa Procession.
