Entrance to Taejongdae Park, one of the most famous tourist attractions in Busan, will be free from September at latest because a municipal ordinance relating to the creation of the paid park is repealed.

The Metropolitan Harbor Committee of Busan Metropolitan Council held a meeting on July 24th and voted the abrogation scheme entitled, ‘Management regulations for parks in
Busan Metropolitan City’ which used to be a basis for the park entrance fees. If the fees are finally abolished at the plenary session of the metropolitan council on July 27th, this will become effective from September at the latest through promulgating procedures from now on.

Therefore, the place becomes free thirty years and four months after it started to charge an admission fee in March 1979.

Accordingly, the city will decide to run Taejongdae as a ‘free-of-charge park without car’ and make a public parking lot with 452 parking spaces on a site which is located in front of the park, with a size of 1750
. It also plans to provide conveniences for tourists by operating a trolley which circles 4.3 inside the park.

The number of people who entered the park by walking decreased by 24.2 percent from 2001 to 2005, but the number of vehicles entering the park went up by 1.9 percent. The point was made that the situation creates environmental pollution and causes accidents. Currently, the park charges 600 won for adults and 3000 won for a vehicle as an admission fee.
