Taejongdae Resort Park is one of the must-see spots in the port city of Busan where visitors can enjoy great scenery -- large waves beating upon a sharp, rocky bluff, surrounded by dense forests with a view of the Pacific.

Located in the southernmost area of Yeongdo, the park emanates from its highest peak, 250 meters above sea level. It also houses about 200 species of trees on 1,788,600 square meters, including pines, subtropical broad-leaved trees, camellias and silver magnolias.

The name Taejongdae originates from King Taejong Muyeol (602∼661), the 29th king of the Silla Kingdom (B.C. 57 - A.D. 935), who visited the area and enjoyed the great view while practicing military arts and training soldiers for the conquest of Baekje and Goguryeo in the three kingdoms era.

It was also well known as a place for ritual praying for rain, but during Japan's occupation it was off-limits as it was used as a military fortress.

In 1969, it was developed as a tourist attraction for its beautiful natural charms and in 2004 was renovated to offer visitors more interesting marine experiences.

A cruise tour is also available for 6,000 won. The 40-minute tour takes in the scenic views around Taejongdae Resort Park.

Entry to the park is 600 won. It opens 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. with the ticket office operating until 6 p.m. For more details, call (051) 405-2004 or visit www.bfma.or.kr.
