Busan City announced that China Airlines (CAL), Taiwan’s largest carrier, will launch direct flights between Busan and Taipei starting from September 1st. Currently, Air Busan and TransAsia Airways operate 12 flights a week on the Busan-Taipei route. With the launch of CAL's direct flights for Taipei, this number will increase to 18.

CAL will operate one flight in each direction on every day except Friday, all served by Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which carry 158 passengers.

Peach, the Japanese low-cost carrier, will also begin operations between Busan and Kansai Airport in Japan from September 12th, with seven flights a week. Currently, three airlines operate flights on the Busan-Kansai route, and this number will increase to 56 (8 flights daily).

International airlines have steadily increased their flights to and from Gimhae Int’l Airport in Busan by almost 10 percent in the past five years in order to meet future airline demand in the Busan region.

Foreign airlines plan to attract long-distance passengers from Busan, who travel via their countries' international airports. A long distance direct flight service from Gimhae Int’l Airport is not available, so foreign airlines are expected to continue to launch flights from Gimhae Int’l Airport in the immediate future.
