World's largest container vessel enters Busan Port

The world’s largest container vessel entered Busan Port soon after it was constructed. The Maesk ship made its first call at Busan New Port (PNC Terminal) on July 15th.
Maersk MC-Kinney Moller, built by Republic of Korea's major shipping company, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co Ltd, can carry 18,000 6-meter containers. The vessel is 165,000 in gross tonnage, 399m in length, 59m in width, and 73m in height, or about the size of four football fields.
The ship is ‘Triple-E’ (Economy of scale, Energy efficient, Environmentally improved) and was built to minimize fuel consumption. It emits 20% less CO2 compared to other vessels.
Maersk MC-Kinney Moller will be deployed on Asia-Europe routes and will process approximately 90,000 TEU annually at Busan Port.
Busan Port Authority (BPA) president Ki-tack Lim said “Regular calls by the world’s largest vessel at Busan Port prove the outstanding conditions and services at Busan Port. It will have a positive effect on establishing Busan Port as a hub for global mega-shipping companies.”
BPA has carried out active marketing strategies toward global shipping companies to attract mega-sized container vessels by providing exemption for port entry and clearance fees, berth hires, and demurrage for over 10,000 tones.
