SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) Symptom and Precautionary Measures

CHARACTERISTIC SYMPTOMS
High Fever
Discomfort such as, a chill, a headache and muscular pain all over the body.
Some patients show respiratory symptoms.
After 2 to 7days patients show a dry cough without phlegm.
Most patients(80% ~ 90%) exhibit only symptoms however, 10% ~ 20% patients get worse. These critical patients have difficulty breathing and require mechanical assistance.
The death rate for SARS is about 3~4%.


HOW SARS IS SPREAD?
It is assumed that people are mainly infected through tiny saliva droplets.
When SARS patients cough, sneeze or speak it is contagious.
Through the material that is infected by a respiratory organ's secretion, SARS virus can be spread.
To prevent infection, citizens have to be careful of their health(keep sanitary) by cleaning their hands and body.

SARS TRAVEL WARNINGS
The "National Institute of Health", recommends not to travel to Hong Kong, China, Hanoi(Vietnam) and Singapore.

IF RECENTLY YOU'VE TRAVELED TO A DANGEROUS PLACE FOR SARS WHAT SHOULD YOU BE CAREFUL OF?
After the trip check whether you have a fever or not for a 10day period.
After visiting a dangerous country such as, Guangdong, Hong Kong, Shanxi, Taiwan, Hanoi(Vietnam), Toronto (Canada).
Check if you have a high fever with cough and difficulty in breathing. If you do than contact a public health center for help.

TO PREVENT SARS
Until now, there are no known preventive medicines.
The best way to prohibit getting SARS is to limit contact with infective people or places and completely observe the rules of individual health safety.
