Yeongdo Bridge will serve as a drawbridge once again after 47 years. The opening ceremony for the bridge will be held on November 27 at 2 p.m. next to Jagalchi market. To accommodate the festivities, traffic over the bridge will be shut down for the day.

Yeongdo Bridge, which connects Jung-gu and Yeongdo Island, first opened on November 23, 1934, as the first drawbridge in Korea.  The bridge ceased to act as a drawbridge in 1966 due to increased traffic volume in the downtown area. The bridge maintenance and restoration project was successfully completed after six years since construction began in 2007.

From November 28, 2013, the Yeongdo Bridge will be lifted once a day at noon for 15 minutes. It takes about two minutes for the 31 meter long, 590 ton bridge to be lifted to a 75-degree angle.

Yeongdo Bridge symbolizes the joys and sorrows of the Korean people during Korean War.

The City of Busan expects the bridge to become a new tourist attraction as well as a historic symbol.
