A scene from the fantastic Busan Fireworks Festival.
Autumn skies will be ablaze during the 9th Busan Fireworks Festival Oct. 25-26 at Gwangalli Beach and BEXCO. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Busan as a direct-controlled municipality, the theme of the fireworks festival is “50 Years of Love, Busan!”
On Oct 25, Korea’s top singers will participate in a K-pop concert at 7:30 p.m. at BEXCO Auditorium. Boohwal, Kim Bum-soo, After School, Lim Jae-bum and JK Kim Dong-wook will perform.
The highlight of the festival, Busan Multi Fireworks Show, will be at 8 p.m. Oct. 26 at Gwangalli Beach. This is year’s festival will showcase some of the most sensational and dazzling fireworks ever shown.
The story of “Busan’s Past 50 Years and Future 50 years” will be presented through fireworks. From the upper level of Diamond Bridge, an upgraded version of the three-tier fireworks resembling a waterfall called the “Color Iguacu Waterfalls” will be shown for the first time.
The 25-inch ultra-large fireworks will include more colors than previous yellow fireworks and more than 80,000 fireworks will light up the sky. Incorporating lighting from the Diamond Bridge, the fireworks festival is sure to be more magnificent and splendid than ever.
Prior to the Multi Fireworks Show, there will be a pre-event ceremony at 2 p.m. at the central stage of Gwangalli Beach coastal road. From 6 p.m., there will be a Brazilian percussion performance, mixed group chorus, pep rally and concert. A special event where couples can propose to their loved ones also is planned.
In case of bad weather, any decision to delay the festival will be made three days in advance.
- How to get there: Ten-minute walk from Mt. Geumryeonsan Station or Suyeong Station, Metro line 2.
Best fireworks-viewing locations
The fireworks can be seen from as far away as Tsushima Island in Japan and Gwangalli Beach will be jammed, but there are other places to see the extravaganza.
1. Mt. Hwangnyeong Bongsudae (beacon tower)
The beacon tower of Mt. Hwangryeong offers a bird’s-eye view of Diamond Bridge and Gwangalli Beach, as well as Haeundae, Seomyeon, Dongnae and other parts of the city. Many photo enthusiasts flock to the beacon tower for shots of the awesome fireworks.
2. Mt. Jang
This is an ideal site to observe the flowing curve of Diamond Bridge and bright lights of Marine City and Centum City. Mt. Jang is the place to watch the show from the city center for fireworks fans who don’t mind a climb. There is no transportation up the mountain.
3. Millak Waterfront Park
This park east of Gwangalli Beach is also a great place to watch the fireworks. Since it is a little far from Gwangalli Beach, it is relatively less crowded. While the front of the Diamond Bridge is not visible, the fireworks seem as though they are right overhead. Nearby Millak Raw Fish Center offers fireworks fans the option of savoring some sushi while enjoying the show.
4. Mipo
It is difficult to see the fireworks show from most of Haeundae Beach, because Dongbaek Island hides the view. However, at the end of the beach, Dongbaek Island, Marine City and the Diamond Bridge are visible.
