Ambassadors and their wives from Latin America, and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade modeled a fashion show of traditional Korean costumes (“hanbok”) at Lotte Hotel on Friday (June 9).

The Global Costume Festival and the ministry organized the first Korea-Latin America Goodwill Evening with the fashion show, to promote bilateral relations.

Diplomats from Latin America and Korea showed up on stage in a variety of hanbok, including those for royal families and senior officials of the past.

At the event, two Peruvian performers danced Peru’s national dance to emphasize the support of the Peruvian Embassy for the friendship evening.

“Korea-Latin America relations have rapidly developed in the past 10 years, and we need to develop further government and non-government exchanges between the two regions just like this event,” Han Byung-kil, director-general of the Latin American and Caribbean affairs bureau of the ministry, said.

Yang Myung-hwan, president of the Global Costume Festival echoed the same view, promising next year’s event to be even more successful and with better programs.

The Global Costume Festival has held the annual hanbok fashion show with ambassadors and their wives in different cities since 2001. This year’s festival will take place in Busan in October and 60 embassies are expected to join.

On hand at the event were the ambassadors of Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, and Venezuela.
