The Government Information Agency (GIA) will launch a campaign to "let the world know Korea correctly" through tens of thousands of backpacking Koreans who will travel the world during the coming summer vacation.
Back-packers will be asked to serve as "publicity messengers" with a mission to inform the world about Korea's positive and dynamic image. To participate in the campaign, they will have to log onto the GIA homepage (www.allim.go.kr) or government affairs briefing homepage (www.news.go.kr) before departure.
Those chosen as messengers will receive a "Dynamic Korea" T-shirt, a cap and a badge, all free of charge, at a special booth near the departure gate of the Incheon International Airport. They are expected to report the pros and cons concerning Korea's image abroad.
GIA will pick outstanding examples sent in by the messengers, honor the senders with cash prizes, publish the stories in book form and present them as examples at a major symposium organized by the National Image Commission.
Launching the campaign, Government Information Agency Minister Chung soon-kyoon said June 22 that Korean backpackers, estimated to number 30,000 to 40,000 a year, will be able to play an important role in spreading Korea's positive and dynamic image abroad as "traveling publicity messengers," adding that their activities would also offset some adverse perceptions about Korea.
To apply for Publicity Messengers, college students or others, who plan to make overseas travel or attend foreign language study programs in July and August are asked to log onto (www.allim.go.kr) or (www.focus.co.kr) to download application forms from June 23 through August 31.
