Organizers of the AD STARS Busan International Advertising Festival 2011 has announced that 7,130 entries were submitted from 46 countries this year, an increase of 1,693 (or 31%) from the 5,437 entered from 41 countries last year.
The number of entries from countries other than Korea has increased by 22% to 4,622. A significant number came from Europe, North America and South Africa, in addition to Asia. Eight countries, including Qatar, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Ecuador, Panama, Uruguay, Egypt and Slovenia have submitted entries at the festival for the first time this year.
The submitted entries will compete in eight categories – namely: products and services, public service advertising, craft, interactive, public brand section, netizens, non-professionals, and young stars. 1,267 final works from 41 countries will be displayed and screened at the Grand Hotel during the festival.
AD Stars 2011, the biggest advertising festival in Asia, will be held from August 25 through 27 at Haeundae Grand Hotel. Seminars and film screenings will be held under the theme, “The Future of Advertising”.
The festival wishes to emphasize the ‘public good’ contribution of advertisements. Therefore, for the first time in the AD Stars, a public brand promotion booth will be established to promote public brands of international organizations and countries such as the World Food Program and UNICEF, at Haeundae Beach.
A variety of side events – a Young Stars advertising competition (Aug. 25 – 26, Kyungsung Univ.), an Advertising Industry job fair (Aug. 26, at Haeundae Grand Hotel), an opportunity for conversation with the juries (Aug. 27, at the Haeundae Grand Hotel) – are also scheduled to be held.
A city official said, “We anticipate that AD Stars will contribute to enhancing the Ad Market i n Korea as well as Busan City’s brand as a hub of film and visual culture,” and added, “We encourage as many Busan citizens as possible to come and participate in the AD STARS 2011, which this year will be the biggest ever to take place.”
