August 23 marks the first birthday of the Busan International Foreign School (BIFS). Located at Nae-ri, Gijang-eup, Gijang-gun, the school is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Council of International Schools (CIS), and is rapidly becoming one of the top foreign schools in Korea.
The accreditation from WASC and CIS provides a clear endorsement that BIFS is an international level school with a top quality educational environment.
The school offers the IB (International Baccalaureate) course, one of the most widely recognized school qualifications in the world.
If a student needs to transfer to another country, the school provides him or her with extensive counseling and orientation to ensure the smoothest possible transition. Since the students come from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds, BIFS strives to deliver a comprehensive syllabus that helps form fully-rounded and international students.
On opening in 2010 the school had 280 students, a number that this year increased to 385. Demand has risen sharply for places in the school among students from surrounding cities, including Ulsan, so the 2011-2012 intake is expected to top 400.
Besides offering an outstanding curriculum, BIFS provides a wide range of extra-curricular activities and voluntary programs for students. These are intended both to broaden the students’ horizons and let them give something back to local society.
