Opening of Busan Harbor Bridge on May 23rd Completes Busan Coastal Beltway

The opening ceremony for the Busan Harbor Bridge was held on May 22, 2014, at 3 p.m. in front of the Gamman-dong tollbooth on the Busan Harbor Bridge with the participation of about 1,000 people including Mayor Hur Nam-sik, members of the Busan in the National Assembly, heads of related organizations and local residents.
Busan Harbor Bridge which connects Yeongdo-gu and Nam-gu officially opened to the public at midnight, May 23, 2014.
The City of Busan broke ground for the 3,368 meter long and 18.6 to 25.6 meter wide cable-stayed bridge crossing the North Port in April 2007, and completed construction in April 2014 with a total cost of 538.4 billion won. Busan Harbor Bridge, built with state-of-the-art technology is the longest steel composite cable-stayed bridge in Korea.
The opening of Busan Harbor Bridge also completed the costal beltway, starting from Geoga Bridge to the Gyeongbu Highway via Busan New Port, the Noksan and Shinho Industrial Complex, Eulsukdo Bridge, Namhang Bridge, Busan Harbor Bridge and Gwangan Bridge. It is expected to help relieve urban traffic congestion and reduce distribution costs.
The Busan Harbor Bridge toll hasn’t been decided yet and will be free until August 20, 2014.
