More than 1,200 major conferences and exhibitions coming this year

Starting this month, Busan City and BEXCO will play host to large-scale international conferences and exhibitions. There will be more than 1,200 events held at BEXCO this year, an increase of 150 from the 1,052 events at the conference venue in 2013.

Major conferences planned this year include Busan Contents Market, Busan International Motor Show, Offshore Korea 2014, Busan International Boat Show, Health IT Show 2014, ITU Plenipotentiary Conference (known as the Olympics of the ICT industry), 13th World Korean Business Convention and Kyani Asia Regional Convention.

From May 15-17, Busan Contents Market 2014 was held, with more than 560 companies from 50 countries attending. The Busan International Motor Show will be held May 29 to June 8. Twenty-one automakers and brands will participate in the country’s biggest motor show.

There also will be a plethora of events scheduled for the second half of the year.

From July 4-6, the 2014 Kyani Asia Regional Convention will be held, drawing 4,000 participants from 10 countries. Headquartered in the United States, Kyani is a multinational health food and supplement company with 50 offices worldwide. The convention in Busan will allow the city to become a logistics hub for the Kyani Group that covers Japan and Southeast Asia.

The 2014 World Korean Business Convention from Sept. 24-26 will be attended by 4,000 overseas Koreans from 50 countries. From Oct. 2-5, the Busan International Boat Show will further enhance Busan’s status as the maritime capital of Korea and expand the marine leisure industry.

The ITU Plenipotentiary Conference will be held for three weeks starting Oct. 20. An estimated 300,000 participants from the industrial sector, academia and civic groups will take part in the conference. The economic impact of the convention industry is expected to be about 700 billion won ($674 million).
