Lore Bert’s art exhibition, ‘Art & Knowledge in the 5 Platonic Solids’ is currently being held at Busan Museum of Art until July 6. Lore Bert is a modern artist who lives and works in Germany.She has participated in over 200 exhibitions in Asia and Europe and had a solo exhibition at the Hyundai Gallery in Seoul in 1989. Art & Knowledge in the 5 Platonic Solids is her first exhibit in Busan.
Constructive, geometrical and architectural shapes as well as numbers are her form elements. Poetic and philosophic writings, logical constellations, qualities, universal relations and the absolute in its poetic beauty create the mental and spiritual base of her work.
Lore Bert proposes her cosmic world view through the theme of the exhibition, ‘5 Platonic Solids’ which consist of tetrahedron, hexahedron, octahedron, icosahedron, and dodecahedron. The 5 solids were a significant source of inspiration for Bert and form the dominant motif of the exhibit. The Greek philosopher Plato described the physical world as consisting of the four basic elements; earth, air, fire and water. These 4 elements are individually allotted to the solids - tetrahedron, hexahedron, octahedron and icosahedron respectively. The dodecahedron, the shape of the universe, was added later as a ‘fifth’ element.
A total of 22 flat pieces, one three-dimensional piece as well as Bert’s displayed works from the 2013 Venice Biennale are featured in this exhibition.
