The 41st Busan International Kite Festival is taking place from March 26 to 27 for two days at Dadaepo Beach.

Busan City aims to hold the festival in order to inherit and preserve traditional heritage and to expand cultural exchange through a variety of events with people from around the world.

The festival is co-hosted by the Busan Traditional Kite Preservation Association and Han Na Rae Culture Inc., and is supported by Busan Metropolitan City, Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education, and Hanseong Traditional Kite Preservation Association.

With 2,000 participants from 12 countries including the U.S.A, France, Japan and China, the kite flying contest, kite exhibition and traditional folk performances are scheduled to be held.

After the opening ceremony of the festival on March 26 at 11 a.m., the kite flying contest will begin. The kite flying contest is subdivided into a number of categories, including kite fighting, creative kite flying, and high flying.

In addition, various side events - kite exhibitions, kite-making, traditional folk performances and plays - will provide visitors with a variety of things to enjoy.

A city official said, “We encourage many Busan citizens to come and participate in the festival in order to promote our unique traditional culture and to experience kite flying and kite fighting which are rarely seen in our city. Busan citizens will be able to make some happy memories with participants from other countries.”
