The biggest Korean Studies congress ever opened Thursday in Busan, Korea’s biggest port city. The Korean Political Science Association (KPSA) is hosting the World Congress for Korean Studies 2007 at the Nurimaru APEC House and the Busan Exhibition & Convention Center from Aug. 23 to 25.
Themed ``Korea in the World: Democracy, Peace, Prosperity and Culture,’’ the congress has invited 575 scholars from 28 countries around the world.
Korean specialists are discussing a variety of issues including inter-Korea relations; the Korean economy, ranging from the issues of economic viability to debates on social fairness; cultural aspects of Korean society; the Hallyu phenomenon; and papers written on Korean history from ancient times to the present.
Founded in 1953, the KPSA has grown into the largest academic organization in Korea with over 2,000 members. The organization promotes academic activities and international congresses among scholars, and mutual understanding between Korean and foreign scholars.
