Dalmaji Hill Free Market in Haeundae to open on weekends from March 8
Dalmaji Hill, which literally translates to “greet the moon,” is known as the Montmartre of Korea and abounds with arts and culture. Starting March 8, Haeundae-gu District Office will run the 2014 Dalmaji Art Free Market in the outdoor courtyard of Haewoljeong, the sea and moon pavilion.
The free market will be held from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday until November. The Art Free Market will showcase various handmade candles, fancy woodworks, beads, leather and pressed flower handicrafts produced by 52 local artists.
It will be hard for visitors to resist buying these artworks and ornaments. The items on the display stand look chic and elegant. There are also necklaces made of beads, ornaments made from fancy woods, as well as ceramics. There is even a corner where an artist will draw a caricature for those who request it.
There is joy not merely in purchasing the accessories and ornaments, but also in admiring the market’s ambience. Busan’s dancers and performance artists also participate in the free market. There is a multitude of performances, including hip hop, vocal team performances and pantomime at Dalmaji Hill.
Dalmaji Hill is famous for being one of the eight most scenic spots in Korea - and its sunrise and sunset views are unparalleled. Young people, families and foreign tourists alike flock to this cozy area, considered one of Busan’s best attractions. Its elegant cafes, restaurants and art galleries create a picturesque setting along the hill’s winding road.
