Eulsukdo Bridge toll charges will start from February 1. During rush hour (7 a.m. to 9 a.m and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.) on weekdays, Busan City has decided to offer ‘Hi-Pass'-equipped vehicles a 29% discount. For vehicles rated ‘small’, including all regular passenger cars, vans with 15 seats or less, and trucks of up to 2.5 tons, the discounted toll will be 1,000 won. For vehicles rated ‘medium’, including 17-32 seater coaches and 2.5–5.5 ton trucks, the toll will be 1,700 won. Finally, for 33- seater coaches and larger, the toll will be reduced to 2,200 won. To ease traffic congestion during rush hours, other large vehicles including container and other articulated trucks (weighing over 5.5 tons) will be excluded from the discount plan even if they are equipped with the Hi-pass system
The city will cover any earnings shortfall from the toll discount, which is planned to be applied for about two years, and will continuously monitor traffic volumes to limit the city’s financial burden.
Normal toll fares were set at 1,400 won for small vehicles, 2,400 won for medium-sized vehicles and 3,100 won for large vehicles (33-seater coaches, 5.5 ton trucks, container trucks and specialized vehicles).
To decide on reasonable toll rates, various efforts such as collecting public opinion, researching traffic volumes during the toll-free period and holding public hearings have been made.
The opening of the bridge has dramatically reduced traffic congestion on the Nakdong Bridge and, with the new industrial road now providing rapid access for industrial traffic to and from Busan New Port and Noksan Industrial Complex, it is also helping to reduce distribution costs and raise export competitiveness. Therefore, the bridge is expected to be a big help in strengthening company competitiveness and in the further development of the West Busan zone.
