The Year of the Tiger Exhibition will be held from January 19th until March 1st at Busan Museum. The exhibition aims to show the symbolic meaning of the tiger as represented in Korean culture - including ethnic religion, tales, art and daily life - and to promote our traditional custom and folklore related to the twelve so-called ‘Earthly Branches’ through visual materials …

The tiger is the third of a dozen animals that together make up the 12 Earthly Branches and it is a symbol of power and bravery. From ancient times, the tiger has been an object of worship or a symbol of the warrior. The exhibition will display 23 relics, including household items (including an embroidered folding screen, blue and white porcelain bottle, Hojokban ("tiger's legs” table), pencil case, cigarette case and copper mirror), clothing accessories (belt and Hyungbae(badge with emblem)), funeral relics (burial carving and “Tiger” tombstone inscription-rubbings), and paintings.
