Officials hope to strengthen the city’s existing partnerships and cement some new ones
In 2011, Busan will become even more active in international cultural exchange efforts with its sisterhood cities than in any other year.
Busan plans to cement new agreements and improve its relationships with other cities by diversifying and enhancing international exchange activities, aggressively promoting various events and boosting the quality of its programs in this area.
The first major move in this direction will come in March, when the city will officially ink a sisterhood city agreement with Casablanca, Morocco. Casablanca is one of the most famous port cities in the world. It is located in northwest Africa center of industry, where it ranks as one of the largest cities in the region and a hub of economic activity.
In April, Busan will participate in Korean Day in Auckland, New Zealand, where local officials will promote the city and its brand.
Later in the month, officials will participate in the Chicago Daily Forum in the United States to discuss various issues with representatives of major cities across the world.
In May, a cultural delegate team from Saint Petersburg, Russia, will visit Busan and hold cultural exchange events and a photography exhibition in an effort to promote the strong relationship between the cities.
In June, Busan will invite officials from other cities to town to educate them on development at Busan’s port facilities, while in July education delegates from Surabaya, Indonesia, will visit.
In August, the city will send cultural delegates to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, where they will hold traditional Korean music and dance performances as well as taekwondo demonstrations, giving locals a taste of Korean culture.
In September and in October, the city will participate in Korean’s Day in Los Angeles and the Fukuoka Asia Pacific Festival in Fukuoka, Japan, where officials will operate a Busan promotion booth.
In November, the 4th High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness will take place at Haeundae BEXCO, which is expected to draw some 2,000 people from 150 countries.
