1. Completion of Geoga Bridge, connecting Busan and Geoje, and the Second phase of the Seoul-Busan KTX Line
- The 8.2 kilometer Geoga Bridge connecting Gadeokdo Island in Busan with Jangmok-myeon in Geoje opened on December 14, 2010. Construction was started in December, 2004 and was completed in 6 years.
- The 2nd phase of the Seoul-Busan KTX Line connecting Daegu with Busan (130.8km) was also completed this year, reducing the travel time from Seoul to Busan by 22 minutes to just two hours and 18 minutes.
- Continuing integration of the entire transport network in the Busan region.
2. Completion of Metro Line 4 (December, 2010)
Metro Line 4 (Minam Rotary~Anpyeong, 12.7km) will officially open to the public next March after test runs have been completed, and construction will also start on a rail connection between Sasang and Hadan in 2011.
This will complete the Metro network planned for Busan, as the heart of Busan’s public transport network
3. Foreign tourists to Busan exceed 2 million for the second year in a row
- Developing tourism attractions unique to Busan that can attract foreigners as well as domestic tourists - like the Busan International Fireworks Festival, Pusan International Film Festival and the open-top, double-decker City Tour Buses, has helped to boost tourist numbers.
4. Key infrastructure project to open the ‘West Busan Era’
Completion of the first phase of the international logistics and industrial complex, and opening of
Busan New Port rail link (Busan New Port ~ Samnyangjin, 44.8 km) in December 2010.
5. Busan to emerge as a Mecca of Nuclear Energy and Advanced Medical Care
The Dongnam Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences – created to specialize in cancer treatment and radiological research in Busan – was officially opened on July 16.
A new type of research reactor for export was started in July, 2010
6. The former U.S. Army’s Camp Hialeah was opened to the public.

7. Reclaiming ‘green’ waterfront areas for citizens’ enjoyment
The ecological recovery of the city’s streams (eg. Dongcheon) and the completion of the ecological park in Hwamyeong, as part of the Nakdong River Restoration Project, have been highlights of the year
8. Expansion of science education infrastructure in an increasingly international city.

9. Promotion of city policies in the interests of Busan’s citizens
Opening of the Hoedong Reservoir; Hwangnyeong Tunnel becoming “toll free” (Oct. 2010), and free admission to cultural facilities, such as Busan Museum of Art, Busan Museum, Bokcheon Museum and Chungnyeolsa Shrine
10. Starting Transit Oriented Development
Demonstration projects for transfer centers at Bujeon Railway Station and Dongnae Metro Station.
