Airlines launching service to several overseas destinations in coming months

Locals will be able to choose from a host of new international flights in the coming weeks and months, making it easier than ever to visit everywhere from Cambodia to the Philippines. Several airlines have already started new service this year to overseas destinations, while others plan to add new routes from Gimhae International Airport in the near future. The increased service will make it more convenient for locals to travel to other regions of Asia, as they won't have to connect in Seoul. At the same time, the flights give foreigners even greater access to Busan, raising the city's profile and making it a more attractive tourist destination.

Korean Air added two new weekly flights in November between Busan and both Siem Reap, Cambodia, and Manila, the Philippines. It expanded service to Beijing, China, to five times a week from three flights previously. The carrier also added a new weekly flight to Hong Kong.

The other major carrier in Korea, Asiana Airlines, will launch new service from Busan to Hong Kong and Haneda International Airport in Japan.

Additionally, it will operate chartered flights to Japan with two weekly flights to Miyazaki starting on Dec. 2 and service to Okinawa beginning on Jan. 13. The Okinawa flights will be offered three times a week. Asiana Airlines also will launch two weekly flights to Shizuoka starting on Feb. 12.

At the same time, Asiana Airlines has announced plans to operate two weekly chartered flights to Singapore in January and February.

Low-cost airlines and foreign carriers are also increasing service to and from the region. Air Busan has announced that it will launch six new weekly flights between Busan and Cebu - an island in the Philippines - starting in December as well as seven flights each week to Taipei, Taiwan beginning in January.

Jeju Air started flying between Busan and Cebu on Nov. 25, offering two flights a week. Air Philippine is considering expanding its Cebu route to daily service between early December and the end of May.

Lastly, Business Air and Zest Air - which operate chartered flights to Phuket, Thailand, and Boracay in the Philippines plan to expand service.
