The City of Busan will provide free public Wi-Fi service to 70 traditional markets and welfare centers as of February 2014. Some of the areas include the Jagalchi, Shin Dongwha, Bujeon, and Bansong Markets. The project aims to save residents money and also diversify the base of people currently using the service.

The public Wi-Fi service is a wireless internet service established by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning and the three major mobile telecommunication companies in Korea including KT, SKT, and LG Uplus. The service allows anyone to wirelessly access the Internet at designated public locations such as meeting areas, City Hall, county and district offices, bus terminals, libraries and parks.

The City of Busan plans to establish public Wi-Fi zones in about 400 public places by 2015.

An additional 250 public Wi-Fi zones are also scheduled to be established at libraries, community centers by 2017.

These free public Wi-Fi zones are marked with emblem for better recognition.

The City of Busan has established Wi-Fi hotspot zones at 25 public places for citizens and tourists convenience since 2007. About 300,000 people used the Wi-Fi service in 2013 and it saved residents approximately four hundred million won on internet fees. The free Wi-Fi service expanded to 80 bus stops and 2,473 local buses in 2011.
